Artist

Sanghoon Bae

Sanghoon Bae is an architect and artist trained at Yonsei University, Seoul. He has worked at Mass Studies in Seoul and KPF in New York, two offices distinguished by their approach to architecture as urban proposition and spatial argument rather than object. His practice moves between architectural design and painting, using both as instruments for understanding how cities accumulate meaning over time.

Bae's recent writing and research has appeared in The Seoulite (2025) and in the essay collection Materials & Spatial Qualities in Architecture (2025). His paintings — often large-format, densely layered — treat the canvas as a site of urban fieldwork: a surface on which impressions of place can be accumulated, edited, and examined at the pace that architecture rarely allows.
